The Trumpet Section

Paul Mason

Born in Blackpool in 1978, Paul learned trumpet as a kid from Terry Reaney, a veteran of the Syd Lawrence band. At 18 he joined his first cruise ship and from there went on to do various contracts for Royal Caribbean and P&O, taking him all over the world. In the summer of 2005 he left his whippet and flat cap to move down south, marrying a fit young dancer the following year. Paul has played with, among others, the Andy Prior Big Band, the Peter Cater Big Band, The Four Tops, and Jimmy James and the Vagabonds. His show work has included The Rat Pack Live From Las Vegas (in the West End and across Europe), Beauty and the Beast and Saturday Night Fever.

Curly Holliday

Largely self-taught, Curly was regularly gigging at age 16 playing all sorts of music but enjoying small band jazz the most. His hero at that time was Dizzy Gillespie. Curly's first professional job was with the Denny Boyce Orchestra playing the Mecca dance halls and broadcasting regularly for the BBC. That set the path for most of his playing career with the highlight being when the Denny Boyce Orchestra accompanied Cab Calloway on a series of Sunday concerts up and down the country.
